I first joined aviation as a very frequent Worldwide Flyer. While I was working to prepare my next meetings, presentations at destination in the cabin I always dreamed to one day fly the plane not just take it to go somewhere to work. Airline companies liked me a lot as I was a top flyer contributing to their success.
One day, for my birthday, my wife and some friends decided that it was time for me to realise my dream and they contributed to my first flying lesson. I was too old to become a professional pilot but in a French aero club in the Alpes I started to fly planes. I took and passed my PPL(A), then the Ultra-light licence and a professional drone licence. This opened for me some fantastic opportunities. A friend of mine has a moto painted on his plane: “Since I started to fly I understand why birds are singing”. First for me it was to learn to fly and land in the mountains. Then I started to fly outside the French borders within Europe, Africa, South and North America.
For me to fly an air-plane is a privilege and I remember as a kid watching people fly. Today as I enjoy flying I also believe that I should share this wonderful feeling. I will not be an airline pilot but I can train young people to open their mind to the wonderful world of aviation. I took the French certification to be a ground instructor (CAEA) and I teach kids the sciences related to aviation: Aerodynamic, weather forecast, how to build an air-plane, navigation, …At the end of the year they can take a French national exam called “Aviation initiation certificate” (BIA). With some pilots friends we have also created the same opportunities for kids in Africa and Latin America in partnership with the “Raid Latécoère” (https://raid-latecoere-aeropostale.org/) that recreates once a year the journey taken by pilots who opened the Aero postal routes to Africa and Latin America. St Exupery, Mermoz, Henri Guillaumet …
I also teach technical English to young aviation mechanics so they can take and pass their European certification and enjoy greater opportunities.
Currently, I am Retired. On a free-lance bases i am a language proficiency examiner and language proficiency trainer.
Freedom, sharing, to meet other people in the world and try to understand how they live, their priorities, believes…
Aviation, contrary to what is usually believed and said, has always been an industry focused on progress, safety, discovery and improving its ecological impact. It has been an industry offering the possibilities to many people, not just a few fortunate, to travel and discover the world. A “mind opener”.
In the French aero club where I was flying I realized that many pilots would not fly outside the border by fear of the unknown and also because their level of English was not good enough to do so safely and legally. What a shame. I have been speaking English nearly my entire professional life and decided that I should help other pilots to realise that it was possible to qualify for their FCL 055 certification. I first started to train in Aeronautical English the Aero club members to take the test. After some time I decided that I needed to be certified to do it in the most professional way. I did some research on internet to find a suitable, professional company to help me and I found Aero Language. The first and following contacts showed me a serious, professional organisation. The training to become a LPE was conducted in a professional way, the documentation was adequate, the follow up and support too.
Before running you need to know how to walk. Before flying a jet liner from one part of the world to the next you need to learn the basic of flying and to understand the fundamental in aerodynamic, navigation, weather,… This is where I belong with my experience. To open the possibility to young people to take the first step towards their dream of flying.
